ST THOMAS AQUINAS CATECHETICAL TRAINING CENTRE

Prior to the Second Vatican Council, the chief catechists at the parish level were priests, religious brothers or nuns. Since the late 19th century, particularly in Africa, increasingly the role of the parish catechist has been undertaken by the Catholic Laity.

In the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, St. Thomas Aquinas Catechetical Training Centre trains all the agents of evangelization different from priesthood; such as Catechist, evangelizers and animators of Basic Christian Community.

The training lasts for the period of two years only. Each academic year consists of two semesters, which is fully residential and allowed for both male and female candidates. However, our program gives room for part time catechist as well and the period of the training is the same two years. What we do with the part time catechist training is that their lectures are always in the weekend.
